Former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, has declared his intention to contest the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Zailani made the declaration at the weekend in Rigachikun, saying his decision followed sustained calls from across the district, which he described as a divine summons to serve.
He said his ambition was not driven by personal interest but by a responsibility to represent and advance the interests of Kaduna Central.
The former Speaker aligned his aspiration with the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as his political mentor and urged supporters to adopt a “joint ticket” by backing his senatorial bid alongside Governor Uba Sani and President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Zailani said the current administration had increased funding to northern states through enhanced federal allocations, attributing the development to the removal of fuel subsidy.
According to him, the increased revenue is sufficient for governors to meet obligations such as salary, infrastructure development and tackling security challenges.
He, however, challenged northern governors to justify the funds by delivering tangible development, stressing that the responsibility now rests with state governors.
Zailani cautioned against mismanagement of public funds, urging leaders to act in the best interest of citizens.
He also called on the Federal Government to address the high cost of fertilizer, proposing a subsidy to reduce prices to about ₦15,000 per bag to support farmers and boost food production.
Reaffirming his political stance, Zailani endorsed President Tinubu for a second term and backed Governor Uba Sani for re-election, however dismissing claims of any preferred candidate for the senatorial seat.
He expressed confidence of securing the support of both leaders for the Senate ticket.
