Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, has appealed to members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who lost in the party’s recent primary elections to put aside their disappointment and join the campaign for the party’s success in the 2027 general elections
Barau made the appeal on Tuesday in Kano during the inauguration of the Kano North Senatorial District Campaign Council
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the event attracted party leaders, campaign council members and supporters from across the senatorial district
The Deputy Senate President said the conclusion of the primaries should mark the beginning of a united campaign rather than create factions among members
He urged candidates who won their respective contests to reach out to their former challengers and involve them in the mobilisation effort
“The primaries are over All members remain part of the same political family, APC. It is normal for politicians to compete for party tickets in a democracy,” Barau said.
He stressed that the larger objective was to secure victory for the party at the general elections, regardless of who won or lost during the nomination process
“I urge those who emerged victorious to work with those who contested but did not secure the tickets,” he added
Barau pointed to the attendance of several unsuccessful aspirants at the inauguration as an indication that the primary contests had not weakened their allegiance to the party
“You can see that many of those who contested the primaries but did not secure the tickets are here today They understand that the party belongs to all of us, and that the victory of the party is ultimately their own victory,” he said.
He subsequently tasked the campaign council with taking the APC’s campaign to the grassroots and securing support across the 13 local government areas in Kano North
The council is expected to mobilise votes for President Bola Tinubu, Barau, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other APC candidates contesting the 2027 elections
Barau said the campaign structure was deliberately designed to bring together party members at different levels, from wards to local governments and the senatorial district
“This is an all-inclusive arrangement Everybody is involved, and all stakeholders are part and parcel of this council,” he said.
He urged members to sustain grassroots mobilisation throughout the election cycle and campaign for APC candidates across the ballot, from the presidential contest to the state House of Assembly elections
