The (NFF) has set Saturday, September 26, 2026, as the date for its next Elective Congress, with Lafia, capital of Nasarawa , confirmed as host city following unanimous approval at its Extraordinary General Assembly.
The decision, ratified during yesterday’s meeting in Yenagoa, signals the formal kickoff of the federation’s electoral cycle, a process expected to shape the leadership and strategic direction of Nigerian football over the next four years.
Delegates endorsed the proposal put forward by the NFF Executive Committee, led by President Ibrahim Gusau, amid broader institutional reforms adopted at the session.
The Congress also approved amendments to key governance instruments, including the NFF Statutes (March 2026 Edition), Electoral Code, and Standing Orders which is seen as laying the legal and procedural groundwork for a credible electoral process.
In preparation, a 12-member Electoral Committee and Appeals Committee drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones were constituted. The panels are scheduled for inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday and will oversee the conduct and adjudication of the elections.
The twelve persons so nominated are: Barr. Matthew Burkala, SAN and Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi (North Central); Alhaji Babagoni Grema and Barr. Benjamin Sak (North East); Bature Musa and Prof. Abdulmalik Awwal (North West); Hon. Justice C. J. Aneke and Arinze Azubuike Anughere, Esq. (South East); Hon. (Dr) Akogun Olugbenga Omole and Abayomi Akin Omoyimi, Esq. (South West) and; Ayibaye Peter Great Temedie, Esq. and Ayi Ekpo Ukpayam (South South).
Members are to choose their chairmen and in line with the NFF Electoral Code, five (5) persons will serve as full members on the Electoral Committee with two (2) other persons as alternates, while three (3) persons will serve on the Electoral Appeals Committee with two (2) other persons as alternates.
The gathering opened on a solemn note, with delegates observing a minute’s silence in honour of former Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde and ex-national team captain, Henry Nwosu.
